Neutral, Natural, and Anything but Boring: Inside Our Latest Country Home Makeover

When our clients decided to leave their charming city home for a sprawling country property, they were ready for a fresh start. With three kids and a busy lifestyle, they wanted a home that felt relaxed yet refined. A space that balanced everyday function with understated elegance.

The new house, a beautiful bungalow set on acres of land with a pool and outdoor kitchen, had great bones but didn’t yet reflect their style. so what started as a quick update to the kitchen hood wall quickly evolved into a full kitchen redesign, plus a few adjoining spaces.

It’s a story we see often: once the vision starts to take shape, clients realize the power of cohesive design. And in this case, it was absolutely the right decision.

The Heart of the Home

The existing kitchen had an excellent layout. A spacious island, an eat-in banquette, and an open connection to the family room—but stylistically, it belonged to another era. Our clients wanted something fresh, timeless, and calm.

The design began with a porcelain slab that they instantly fell in love with. Its soft veining and organic warmth became the anchor for the entire palette.

From there, we built a space defined by neutral tones, natural textures, and gentle contrasts. Warm oak, matte porcelain, and subtle brass details add depth without overpowering the room. The result is a space that feels minimalist but never cold—bright, soft, and incredibly livable.

Layered Living

Just off the kitchen, we transformed what was once an undefined area into a cozy lounge, a screen-free zone for family connection.

The curved sofa, placed intentionally on the diagonal, creates a natural flow and a distinct sense of place. It’s become the perfect spot for morning coffee, casual gatherings, or simply unwinding after a long day.

We also reimagined the adjacent mudroom, adding a custom storage bench, shelving, and a durable outdoor rug to handle the family’s daily comings and goings. These subtle functional upgrades help the home feel effortlessly organized while maintaining the kitchen's aesthetic warmth.

A Quiet Retreat

The primary bedroom tells a similar story, one of balance and calm. Designed as a true sanctuary, it embodies everything this family hoped to find in their new life outside the city: simplicity, serenity, and beauty rooted in nature.

This project is a testament to how well our process meets our client’s needs. We begin with what’s already good—the structure, the flow, the light—and build upon it with thoughtful design decisions that bring harmony and purpose to every space. It’s never about change for the sake of change, but about reimagining how a home can serve the people who live in it.

In this project, we didn’t just update a kitchen; we helped a family redefine what “home” feels like.
